This may come as a surprise but you can make your home look immeasurably better in under 10 minutes. I'm not saying that you'll have a spotlessly clean home, or that there won't be mess, but by concentrating on certain areas of your home you can make an impression without too much effort on your part.

1. Go in the kitchen and wash the dishes.

By washing the dishes you are removing clutter from the sink. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes if you don't get distracted. Just stack the dishes in the drainer and you're done. It'll take even less time if all you need to do is stack the dishwasher.

2. While you are there, wipe down the kitchen benches.

The trick here is to do only what you can see, and put away things that are easily stored. Don't go crazy here and try to make it immaculate. There's no need since you're only after tidy, not perfect.

3. Tidy the living room.

Not all of it! I want you to stand at the door and see where the biggest, most distracting pile of junk is. Get some bags and make short work of it. Throw out what you don't need and put away the rest. There's no need to go overboard here. Don't spend more than 2 minutes on this task. Do it fast, and don't think. That's what really slows you down.

4. In the bathroom, clean the wash basin.

Don't think. Just put away the things that shouldn't be there and wipe it down. It will take you no time at all. Two minutes tops. Time it and see. Again, you aren't aiming for perfection, you want less clutter in the area.

5. With the minute you have left give yourself a pat on the back. Your house may not be perfect, but at least its a little better.

These steps won't give you a spotless home, but in 10 minutes you can give the place a little shakedown. All it requires is some elbow grease and not a lot of thought. Planning is what really takes the time, after all. So if you want less clutter in under 10 minutes give these steps a try and you'll be off and running.
